Bought this for hauling my wingfoil gear 1 mile+ each way to the beach and for hauling my inflatable kayak 1/2 mi each way to the water. I have to go over paved roads with numerous potholes, speed bumps and finally a very rocky, dirt road. I considered trolleys with airless tires since they cost one third what this trolley with the beach wheels cost, but I had some experience with airless tires and I was concerned about the smoothness of the haul and more importantly, the durability of an airless system over constant 2+ mile round trips over varied terrain. My initial experience is that this trolley was worth every penny. Easily rolled over all the various terrain w/out issue or tipping. The haul was much smoother than my experience w/airless tires. Although I don't have to travel over soft sand, I'm glad to also have that option should I go to a different beach where it would be necessary. The item comes almost fully assembled, all that's needed is to inflate the tires and install them (2 minutes total). This is my initial rating, obviously, any future durability issues could change my rating.
At 66 years old, and a new kayaker, I had been struggling to get my kayak from my car to the waters edge. The design on the cart I had kept the little boat falling off. This one works perfectly. My kayak stays on! Though its advertised for use in sand, it goes over the parking lot gravel, the grass and roots on the path, AND the sand once I get to the beach! I know its a bit pricey, but not as pricey as buying the wrong (cheaper) one in the first place.
The main reason for getting it was to be able to use it on sandy terrain and it did not disappoint! Solidly built and great performance. Looks and feels nice. Large bulky tires make all the difference.
The designers got all the details right. When in use, the carrier is low and stable. It has a "kickstand" to hold it upright while you mess with the canoe or kayak. There are straps to secure the boat to the carrier so that you can pull with confidence. The wheels are rugged, so you do not have to worry about sharp rocks or barnacles. When in storage, carrier is flat, about 2-3 inches thick. Yes, you can easily remove the wheels for separate storage or carry, and they are easy to put back on. I can tell that great care was put into the design becasue there are little flaps on the buckles to keep from marring your boat. Finally, do not throw away the cardboard because it is used to prevent problems with overinflation of the wheels. I saw this odd piece of packing cardboard and tossed it; I had to go back into the recycle bin to get it out when I inflated the tires. Finally, the materials are chosen to be light and to resist corrosion, but I do plan to rinse off saltwater when storing the carrier. Excellent!
very simple to assemble, should be very just the ticket for hauling my sea kayak through the dunes at the beach.
My only issue...why does all this stuff need to be made in China?
