I had this professionally installed. I like that the frame does take up space on the dock and is easily removeable.
This looked like the answer to my dock storage problems, so I ordered it. I wasn't disappointed when it arrived - it uses a thick gauge steel that is very beefy - it isn't going to bend or break! The "trailer hitch" dock attachment is well thought out and provides a solid attachment to the dock. Be prepared to get under the dock to attach, which is what I expected. It was actually fun floating under the dock with my tools to work it! I would have given this 5-stars, but for the extra costs (and surprises) to make it work, and I don't think my dock is unusual. My 1st surprise was I needed to buy a set of expansion posts ($66 shipped) for the frame to reach the 2nd dock joist to secure it. My joists are 24" on center which is not unusual. My 2nd surprise was after I attached the frame to the dock, there was a need to buy another set of expansion posts ($66 shipped) to add to the top of the frame to hold my 2 kayaks - yes 2 not 3. The amount of space provided on the frame is not enough to hold 2 kayaks. I am still waiting for the 2nd set of expansion posts to put on and store my kayaks. I don't have big kayaks, they are single seat, sit-on kayaks. So, if you add the cost of the Dock Frame ($250) the 2 expansion posts ($132), plus the 2 sets of EZ Rack kayak holders ($150), we're talking a total of $532 to store the two kayaks. Yikes, I didn't pay that much for my kayaks! So would I have done this all over again if I knew the total costs? Yes, reluctantly, but not happily.
Lets face it, docks are only so big, and they fill up with water toys quickly! This system gets your kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, even a mats off your dock and lets you reclaim that space. You can configure this frame with almost any combination of racks you want - direct attach flat racks, jay racks, SUP racks (double up your boards with the expansion kit), and even add the Free Standing Bracket for more configuration flexibility (more separation between racks for larger kayaks or boards). And the 'hitch mount' flush mounts on the face of your dock so if you can slide out the frame arms temporarily to tie up a boat. It's easy to install and so custom configurable - we love this system!
