Bought this for hauling my wingfoil gear 1 mile+ each way to the beach and for hauling my inflatable kayak 1/2 mi each way to the water. I have to go over paved roads with numerous potholes, speed bumps and finally a very rocky, dirt road. I considered trolleys with airless tires since they cost one third what this trolley with the beach wheels cost, but I had some experience with airless tires and I was concerned about the smoothness of the haul and more importantly, the durability of an airless system over constant 2+ mile round trips over varied terrain. My initial experience is that this trolley was worth every penny. Easily rolled over all the various terrain w/out issue or tipping. The haul was much smoother than my experience w/airless tires. Although I don't have to travel over soft sand, I'm glad to also have that option should I go to a different beach where it would be necessary. The item comes almost fully assembled, all that's needed is to inflate the tires and install them (2 minutes total). This is my initial rating, obviously, any future durability issues could change my rating.
At 66 years old, and a new kayaker, I had been struggling to get my kayak from my car to the waters edge. The design on the cart I had kept the little boat falling off. This one works perfectly. My kayak stays on! Though its advertised for use in sand, it goes over the parking lot gravel, the grass and roots on the path, AND the sand once I get to the beach! I know its a bit pricey, but not as pricey as buying the wrong (cheaper) one in the first place.
The main reason for getting it was to be able to use it on sandy terrain and it did not disappoint! Solidly built and great performance. Looks and feels nice. Large bulky tires make all the difference.
The designers got all the details right. When in use, the carrier is low and stable. It has a "kickstand" to hold it upright while you mess with the canoe or kayak. There are straps to secure the boat to the carrier so that you can pull with confidence. The wheels are rugged, so you do not have to worry about sharp rocks or barnacles. When in storage, carrier is flat, about 2-3 inches thick. Yes, you can easily remove the wheels for separate storage or carry, and they are easy to put back on. I can tell that great care was put into the design becasue there are little flaps on the buckles to keep from marring your boat. Finally, do not throw away the cardboard because it is used to prevent problems with overinflation of the wheels. I saw this odd piece of packing cardboard and tossed it; I had to go back into the recycle bin to get it out when I inflated the tires. Finally, the materials are chosen to be light and to resist corrosion, but I do plan to rinse off saltwater when storing the carrier. Excellent!
very simple to assemble, should be very just the ticket for hauling my sea kayak through the dunes at the beach.
My only issue...why does all this stuff need to be made in China?
Just received the cart today, so this is more of a preliminary review. It is very well made on first inspection. Went together very easily, but I had an issue with one of the valve stems not sealing to the pump fitting. First tire pumped right up, but the second just kept blowing air past the stem. No big deal, I just used another bicycle pump to inflate it to the proper diameter. One of my biggest worries was if I would be able to stow it in the hatch, being that it was nearly one meter from end to end. I have a Cobra Fish n Dive with a very large rectangular hatch, so I just winged it and took a chance. I had to finagle it a bit, but the whole thing and both wheels will fit. Thats important to me because I use my yak for diving and need the room topside for tanks and gear. I cant wait to try it out this weekend. Ill post another review about ease of travel over asphalt, boardwalk, and sand that I have to traverse to the beach and degree of difficulty in getting the yak mounted properly for cartingstay tuned.
Absolutely a huge help with kayaks and canoes! Makes moving them a one person job. Handles rough terrain without issue. Life saver!
I'm using this under a 17'7" kayak loaded with gear and it crosses the beach with ease. Highly recommended.
It is very helpful and make its so much easier
We have to haul our Sunfish sailboat up over about 30 feet of sandy beach into our boathouse. Even though this was designed for kayaks, it works well for our Sunfish. It used to be a two-person job using a cart with standard wheels, but the baloon tires on this cart make it easy for one person to do it. The frame is REALLY solid, and completely powder-coated paint, so corrosion shouldn't be a problem - we haul out of salt water. The straps are too short to hold the Sunfish, but it was designed for kayaks - we just put on longer straps.
I hate dragging or carrying my SOT through the sand and found myself avoiding heading to the beach until I sprang for this cart. A little pricey so I was hesitant but its worth every penny.
I’ve got different carrier for just parking lot which works great but want to replace w/yours and not use car. Can I push it four blocks to Bay on asphalt street and then on sand? Suggestions? I’ve got Current Design Caribou, fiberglass. Thanx in advance.
Hi Hope,
You can absolutely use the DLX Balloon Sand Cart on asphalt! While it's designed specifically for use in sand, it's great on asphalt, grass, and various other terrain. For your needs, I believe this would be the ideal cart for you!

Great cart - gets the job done. Got my Perception kayak across the beach easily! Would/do highly recommend.
Does this Cart come apart easily and does it fit inside a kayak storage compartment once you get to the water. ? We once bought a similar one but with smaller wheels and it would not fit so we returned it and are still looking for one that will..
Hi Dave,
Thanks so much for your interest in the DLX Balloon Tire Sand Cart! It's a really great cart and I have no doubt that you're just going to love it. For this cart the wheels are secured on the axles with the use of a Quick Release Wheel Pin which slips on and off quickly so that you can easily remove the wheels from the cart frame. The cart frame, itself, also folds flat making it easily fit inside of most kayak storage compartments. Now, unfortunately we can't guarantee that it will fit inside every single storage compartment since the sizes of them vary by the size of the kayak itself, however we have found that the DLX Cart frame does fit inside of most compartments. The wheels are a bit large, measuring about 13' in diameter, so that is something else to consider when trying to decide if it will fit.
All of that said, something else to keep in mind is that Suspenz is dedicated to making sure that our customer's are genuinely happy with their purchase. Should you order the DLX Balloon Tire Sand Cart from suspenz.com and it doesn't fit in your kayak, simply give us a call and we'll help you get it exchanged or refunded - whatever is best for your situation, Suspenz will make it right!
