*Note: The hoisters have minimum lifting weights. In order to open the cam and lower smoothly the block and tackle needs the weight to work against the friction in it. We recommend trying to be closer to the maximum weight than minimum for better overall function.

The Suspenz system works beautifully. The installation instructions were well detailed and easy to follow. It is nice to have a storage area for the kayaks at home, in the garage and out of the way, when they are not in use. As you can see from the photo, because of the shape of the bottom of these kayaks, I tied the remaining strap lengths in a cross fashion to better stabilize them.
Bought the 60 lb, 10 ft ceiling version for storing a lightweight 16 ft canoe. I needed to create a modified installation to suspend the canoe at a bit of an angle below the garage door because the garage bay is quite short. Some of the instruction book sequence was odd (confusingly repeated some parts), but was able to figure it out. All in all, it works great.
We bought the 145 pound 12’ hoist and modified it to use with 2 kayaks and associated gear. It works as expected, lifts the gear up and down with some effort, and feels solid during use.
Installation was straightforward, I did it alone in about 4 hours, but did not need to install cleats as the truss outlines are visible in our shop ceiling. I’m happy with this solution, all of the parts are well made. The brake instantly stops the load as the lowering rope is vertical. Nice feature. I did reverse the rope organizer to get the proper length for the raising and lowering rope. This did not affect performance.
We’ve been contemplating a hoist for getting heavy objects up and down from the shop overhead storage area. There may be another Suspenz in our future!
Directions good but dont address different ceiling joist spacing. They assume 16 centers. A ranch home may have 24 spaced rafter trusses. A little pricy but should last. Certainly works good. Should state mechanical advantage of pulley system not just lift rating.
With a little adjustment of the rope & strap lengths, the kayaks are able to be lifted flush to the ceiling. 2 12' kayaks in a single bay garage (storing over the door was the only space available). Using the rope organizer to reverse the direction of the lifting ropes allows the kayaks to be lifted to a 10' ceiling without needing additional ceiling space (rope organizer is 10'6" from the wall).
